Epistemic diversity and cross-cultural comparative research: ontology, challenges, and outcomes

This paper reflects on the transpositional comparison in Marginson and Yang’s article this special issue, with a focused discussion epistemic diversity cross-cultural comparative research. It argues that global research, largely co-exists inequity injustice, despite long-standing normative appeals. Against backdrop, studies have significant value, albeit facing range of challenges. There are five outcomes encounters: assimilation, immiscibility, being different together (including unity diversity, harmony diversity). Although East–West encounters demonstrated all possible outcomes, is both valuable, not only for but also cross-civilisational comparisons.
